THE PAST NEVER DIES
A
very strong piece of advice about the 'PAST' for my friends and I.
The
past is never where you think you left it. Unfortunately, the clock is ticking,
the hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities
are decreasing and regret mounting.
The
past is never dead; it is a reference. No man is rich enough to buy back his
past for amendment. Your past is always your past. Even if you have forgotten
all about it, it‘s there safe and sound. Scars have the strange power to remind
us that our past is real.
Nothing
formed this PAST except the PRESENT. We all have choices to make at this
present moment, the amazing thing is, we know when we are making the wrong
choices, but most of us kept on deceiving ourselves and trying to dupe our
conscience that what we doing is the right thing, and whereas, it’s the contrary.
The past will always haunt our future, be it the good or the bad past.
Let
me try and paint a scenario here. This story I want to tell you actually
happened. One day, a newly wedded husband went to a get-together party, he
reunited back with some of his old friends he had lost contact with. They were having gist
about their past memories and experiences they would never forget.
A
friend of his said ‘’there was a girl back in the days called Janet, she always
came by to check on her uncle who stayed in my street. At first, I thought the
girl was modest and have a morally strong background, not until I asked her out
and we started dating. The relationship barely lasted a month before I found
out she has been sleeping around with some other boys in my hood. I learnt almost
all the boys in my street got their ration from her by having sex or doing all
sorts of immoral act with her. I pity the poor guy who would end up marrying
that whore… I did have my own ration though’’
Out
of curiosity, the newly engaged husband asked if his friend could provide the
girl’s full description, and to his surprise, his friend gave the exact
description of her wife, he even went ahead by providing her surname. The
husband was shocked to hear her wife being described this way, though she is
now a God fearing person and have thrown away the youthful madness of pure
immoralities. The husband kept his cool and left the party in a sad mood.
Tell
me, if you happened to be the poor husband what would you do? How would you handle that kind of situation
knowing that your wife kept such things from you, thinking to herself it’s all
in the past.
There’s
this Yoruba adage that says ' igbe tintin
ni eti awo gbegiri, ti oju ba kuro nbe, se okan le kuro nbe ni?'
Let
me try and put this adage in English, ‘’there is a palatable soup that look so much
like a feces( a shit) called 'gbegiri' in one of the Yoruba meals. You were
served with a plate of this soup; while eating, you found out that there are
indeed drops of feces on the edge of the plate. Your host rushed down to clean
the feces and told you to continue with your meal, can u continue eating such
food?
They
said youth age is where all kind of madness sprung up in Life. Some people used
their youthfulness to build something they are enjoying for the rest of their
lives. Some indulge in stealing, taking hard drugs, drinking alcohol, smoking
all sort of drugs that will later affect their lungs and eventually cut their
life short, living like a thug and cherishing hooliganism to mention a few. All
this will not die in the past, they will eventually come back to haunt your
future.
We should know that there are always
consequences for all our actions, and some people have made the choice we are
about to make, try and checkout what are left of them before you take that
decision.
There
is one Odd fact about this life: you better be good or you will be bad, no one
stays neutral. We must know that all that is important is this moments in
movement. We should make the moments count and worth living. Do not let it slip
away unnoticed and unused. Real generosity towards the future lies in giving
all to the present. Your past is what would remain of you after your demise (death).
And the thing is, the Past won’t stop following us even after our demise from
this world, it is what will be use to judge us on the day of resurrection.
The
future starts today, not tomorrow; it depends on what you do today. Whether it
is the best of times or the worst of times, it is the only time we have.
It’s
not too late; we can still amend our deeds as a youth. We can still drop those
bad and cruel acts before we are painted a bad picture in the society. We
should start looking for knowledge on how to lead a righteous life... Whenever
you want to make any decision in life, remember it will come to PAST, and it’s
going to evolve around your future. Always remember the PAST when making
preparation for your FUTURE, it will help you not to make same mistake over and
over again. I hope you’ve learnt something that will change you in a positive
way…. Stay Blessed!
